(a 50/50 blend of grenache and mourvedre): Dark ruby. Aromas of cherry, black raspberry and spicecake, with a sexy floral quality that gains power in the glass. Rich and fleshy but surprisingly lively, offering juicy dark fruit flavors and a hint of candied flowers. Closes on a spicy note, with very good clarity, cling and lingering sweetness. The 2009 Vacqueyras Les Templiers exhibits kirsch and black fruits along with loads of pepper, spice and Provencal herbs in its nose to the point where it may be controversial. However, I would suggest it is a classic, just extremely spicy effort. This medium to full-bodied blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah should be consumed over the next 5-7 years. Blackish crimson. Dramatically concentrated and it seems as though it has some oaked Syrah in it?? Fresh and fine boned. Tannins well managed. Not heavy and just a little dry on the end but surely the essence of somewhere..? One of the more refreshing Vacqueyras 2009s.
