Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The wines from Chateau Villemaurine are definitely on the upswing. The 2010 has a ripe sweet bouquet with blueberry, black cherries and a touch of iodine: sumptuous, and more like 2009. The palate is rounded and smooth on the entry. There is evidence of good extraction here with a fine line of acidity that belies the structure on the finish, finally an attractive peppery aftertaste that completes this commendable Villemaurine. This wine continues to get better and better.

A ripe and juicy wine with dried strawberry and hints of earth. Full body, with velvety tannins. Delicious finish. Sweet fruit at the end. Drink or hold.

The wine is tannic, rich and full-bodied, with impressive purity, loads of black raspberry, black currant, graphite and smoky barbecue notes intermixed with some toasty oak and forest floor. Rich and impressive, but needing cellar time, this wine begs for 4-5 years of bottle age and should drink well for 25-30 years. (91+ Points)
