Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. This is a great La Tour Martillac that must be one the finest releases from the estate in recent years. It has quite an elegant understated bouquet with autumn leaves infusing the black fruit profile, later tobacco and cigar box. Good vigour and class. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity on the entry. It is underpinned by good structure, with plenty of red and black fruit and an engaging delineated finish brimming with energy. There is some high quality terroir and fruit here. Tasted January 2014.

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Latour-Martillac has a lovely ripe, dark plum and raspberry scented bouquet with touches of melted tar and tobacco. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity and very fine tannins. There is a touch of blood orange underneath the copious black fruit, whilst the finish has a slight tininess that should ebb away with time. Good potential here. Tasted November 2012. (93+ Points)

Dense, but supple along the edges, offering a packed core of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruit. The lovely licorice, dark tobacco and violet notes glide to the finish, which shows solid, latent grip. Best from 2015 through 2025.

Abundant notes of spicy oak, elegant black currants and rich fruitiness along with hints of forest floor and damp earth are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with sweet tannin and the classic Pessac-Leognan/Graves characteristics of tobacco leaf and smoke. Deep fruit, moderate tannin and a long finish give this wine enough potential to last for up to two decades or more. (90+ Points)

I love the mid-palate to this young and attractive red, with silky tannins and alluring mineral, berry and stone character. Enchanting.
