With an enviable selection of fine wines at our warehouse we wanted to highlight some of the standout wines for drinking now. All offer excellent value and are drinking beautifully now, hopefully something to keep you going through isolation.
2009 MEDOC RESERVE SPECIALE LAFITE, Barons de Rothschild
£70 per 6x75 IB (£16.68/btl inc taxes)
First up from the Chateau Lafite stable, the 2009 Medoc Reserve Speciale is still going strong with perfectly precise cassis fruit and classic Bordeaux notes of cedar, tobacco and leather. There is a deep and seductive nose and it seems there’s plenty of life left in this wine if you want to age it further. Although, I would drink it now, and enjoy that great balance of fruit with fine grain tannins and a stunning finish. Why wait when it’s at such a beautiful stage of its evolution.
2012 DIFESE, Tenuta San Guido
Another wine to have caught our attention is Difese from the same stable as the great Sassacaia. Difese 2012 is mainly Cab, with a third of Sangiovese, this wine has had time to evolve into a delightful medley of soft red fruit, heady floral notes with undertones of spice and sweet tobacco. The tannins have softened and combine with refreshing acidity to make a lively and interesting wine that is at the peak of its drinking window. A perfect cultured wine to sit back and enjoy at fraction of the price of the big boys.

2014 GEVREY CHAMBERTIN PERE GALLAND, Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon
Hot on the heels of sell-out 2011 and 2013 vintages of this wine comes another stunner. The 2014 is no shrinking violet on the nose, and immediately grabs the limelight with a powerful yet inviting nose balancing fruity, floral and oaky notes with aplomb. The palate is packed with unctuous dark cherry fruit which more than stands up to the unbridled use of new oak. It certainly pulls no punches and has the legs to last a good decade, if you can resist it. If you're looking for a burgundy with real power that still has that characteristically ephemeral burgundy charm, look no further. Get yours now before the rest of the staff get their hands on it!
