Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon 2014s

Guillon bottles

The 2014s from Jean-Michel Guillon are fleshy, supple, robust wines that offer serious value for money and will provide much drinking pleasure - great value Burgundies, which are nigh on impossible to find with any age.

"they're generous and fleshy and easy-to-like though with good freshness and transparency. They're the kind of burgundies that almost everyone likes because there's really nothing not to like."  Jean-Michel Guillon on the 2014s, Burghound

We frist discovered Guillon when we had the immense pleasure of tasting the 2013s in the office and immediately bought the Domaine's remaining stock (which is now almost all gone!).  Understandably we jumped at the chance to secure a great parcel of 2014s imported directly from the Domaine.

  • We at Albany will be stocking our private cellars with the Pere Galland, the cuvee named after the man who helped Jean-Michel learn his trade. A fantastic wine with lots of dense red fruit, notes of minerals and silky balance that is drinking beautifully now but with another 8-10 years ahead.  Incredible value!
  • There is more volume and concentration to the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes than the Pere Galland; packed with rich cherry fruit, great structure and complexity, this is currently quite backward; a Gevrey for the long term.
  • The richly fruited Gevrey 1er Cru Champonnets has wonderful lift and class, great minerality and intense fruit & spice.

Attention to detail in the vineyard and vinification is scrupulous with yields kept low to produce the best fruit, and 100% of the finest new oak (notably this approach is carried across the range starting even with the Marsannay).  Jean-Michel has also introduced meticulous practices such as whole cluster fermentation to emphasise the purity of the fruit.

"Jean Michel Guillon is indisputably a man on a mission to make world class wine"  Allen Meadows

Guillon is a passionate winemaker who takes Rousseau, Dugat-Py and Denis Bachelet as his inspiration to make rich, impressive Burgundies; these are highly accomplished, succulent Burgundies which, to quote Allen Meadows "retain a clear sense of style and grace and remain identifiably pinot noir"

"This is not a grower that I know well, but this excellent wine suggests I should investigate further."  Neal Martin on the Guillon, Clos de Vougeot 2013
