Chateau Lagrange has come a long way. Thanks to major investment and vineyard work, Lagrange is now one of the most consistent and best value wines in St Julien, led by the talented Matthieu Bordes. Classic Saint-Julien with more depth and refinement but with a modern polish that makes it equally enjoyable younger. Recent vintages like 2016, 2019, and 2020 have shown just how far Lagrange has come, winning praise from critics and drinkers alike.

What the critics say

William Kelley (WK) — 94–96/100 · Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com, 28/04/2023

The 2022 Lagrange is brilliant, ranking alongside the 2020, 2019 and 2016 as one of this over-performing estate's finest recent vintages. Revealing aromas of dark cherries, cassis, violets and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep core of fruit, beautifully refined but youthfully assertive tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. It's a blend of 86% Cabern…

Antonio Galloni (AG) — 94/100 · Vinous, 28/01/2025 · Drink 2030-2052

The 2022 Lagrange is a gorgeous, classy wine. Crushed flowers, mint, cinnamon and lavender meld into a core of bright red-toned fruit. Lagrange handled the rigors of the growing season well. I especially admire its precision and nuance. Lively floral and citrus notes lift the finish beautifully. Tasted twice.

Neal Martin (NM) — 93/100 · Vinous, 19/01/2026 · Drink 2030-2055

Neal Martin, January 2026 The 2022 Lagrange has an intense nose with hoisin and blackcurrant scents, a little VA perhaps, though it calms down in the glass with touches of pencil box emerging. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, though the acidity keeps this fresh and focused. Not the most powerful Saint-Julien but certainly one of the more elegant. Tasted blind at the Southwold tastin…
