In Bond Fine Wine. 2021 Château Rauzan Segla, Margaux, Bordeaux, France. Second Growth • Red Bordeaux in 6x75cl. Top critic score: 97/100 (AG). Drinking window: 2031–2051. Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Since the nineties, Rauzan Segla has undergone a remarkable transformation, reclaiming its place among Margaux’s top estates. Major investments followed its acquisition by Chanel in 1994, with winemaking led by Nicolas Audebert since 2014, whose experience in both Bordeaux and Argentina brought a fresh, precise approach. The style is now defined by depth, floral elegance, and refined structure—capturing the perfume and poise typical of great Margaux. Today, Rauzan Segla offers First Growth finesse at a more accessible price, making it a standout within its appellation.

What the critics say

William Kelley (WK) — 93–95/100 · Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com, 29/04/2022

Representing around 44% of the estate's production (more or less as usual), the 2021 Rauzan-S'gla unwinds in the glass with aromas of minty cassis, blackberries, loamy soil, dark chocolate and warm spices. Antonio Galloni (AG) — 97/100 · Inside Bordeaux, 27/02/2024 · Drink 2031-2051

The 2021 Rauzan-S'gla is impressive. Dark, somber and brooding, the 2021 offers up a heady concoction of black cherry, plum, graphite, new leather, scorched earth, game and tar, all amplified in a dramatic, super-classic Margaux. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. I loved this en primeur, and I love it just as much today. elevage made all the difference here. Tasted three times.

Neal Martin (NM) — 94/100 · Vinous, 22/02/2024 · Drink 2027-2060

The 2021 Rauzan-S'gla has a beautifully defined bouquet that soars from the glass with blackberry, raspberry coulis, hints of iodine and crushed iris flower aromas. The new oak (60%) is seamlessly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins and perfectly judged acidity, silky yet with sufficient tension and sapidity on the edgy finish to beckon you back for another sip. This…
