The historic flagship Chianti Classico of the Antinori family, produced alongside the celebrated Tignanello at the Tenuta Tignanello estate. Solaia is one of Tuscany’s great “Super Tuscans,” created by the Antinori family as a companion to Tignanello and produced only in the finest vintages. The vineyard, set on a sun-drenched hillside (“Solaia” translates as the sunny one), is planted to Cabe Tignanello, like Sassicaia, holds a special place in the history of Italian wine. First made in 1970, Tig was a groundbreaking blend of the local Sangiovese with international Cabernet Sauvignon.

Impressive cherry and berry fruit with hints of cedar and dried flowers. It's medium-bodied, firm and bright with a long, nicely tannined finish. This can age, but I like the tension and drive to this now. Baby Tignanello. Sangiovese with 10% cabernet. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine, despite showing some tightness because of its recent bottling just a week prior to this tasting. Dark fruit, spice, leather and tobacco are layered in a Riserva that exudes tension, energy and sheer power.
