Always a well-made, charming wine, the 2019 Chateau Poujeaux has classic Bordeaux notes of tobacco leaf and cedar as well as beautiful currant and plum fruits, a medium-bodied, rounded texture, good mid-palate depth, and ripe yet chewy tannins on the finish. Brambled autumnal fruit on the nose, this is good stuff from a property that is consistently impressive. Not as fully powered or concentrated as its 2016, but as ever it offers a more serious and restrained take on the vintage than some of its Moulis siblings, and as such delivers wines that are built to last. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Poujeaux has an oh-so-tempting nose of blackcurrant pastilles, redcurrant jelly and warm plums with touches of pencil lead, underbrush, cinnamon toast and wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate has a fair bit of chewiness giving way to loads of lovely, ripe fruit with soft acidity, finishing savory.
