Made by the talented Durantou family. La Chenade & Les Cruzelles are located in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation, a stone's throw from Eglise Clinet across the border in Pomerol. Les Cruzelles, from gravel and clay-rich soils, is more structured and ageworthy than La Chenade, which is juicy & expressive.

The 2019 La Chenade offers quite plump red fruit on the nose, a bit dusty and not as refined as its peers. Possibly some Brettanomyces at play. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, quite voluminous and outgoing in style, but doesn't quite deliver the complexity to back it up. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 La Chenade is plump and voluptuous in the glass, with terrific fruit presence and tons of pure character. Inky dark cherry, plum, spice, new oak and chocolate are all amped up in this racy, super-inviting Lalande de Pomerol. Denis Durantou and his team coaxed an unreal level of finesse in 2019. Harvest took place between September 18 and 26.
