In Bond Fine Wine. 2018 Château Beausejour Beausejour (Duffau), Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, France. Premier Grand Cru Classé B • Red Bordeaux in 6x75cl. Top critic score: 97/100 (AG). Drinking window: 2024–2058. Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Previously known as Beausejour Duffau, Beausejour is a small estate of just 6.8h. Stunning wines in 1990 & 2009 & 2010 achieved the perfect 100 point scores and show the potential at one of St Emilion's finest terroirs: Robert Parker noted: "In terms of potential, the vineyard is exceeded only by Ausone, Pavie and Belair for micro-climate and exposition." Since 2021 the estate is now being revitalised under the leadership of Josephine Duffau-Lagarrosse (9th generation winemaker). Having worked in Napa, New Zealand, Burgundy (Domaine Georges Noellat) & Mexico as well as Bordeaux, her experiences have shaped her winemaking style emphasising observation, minimal intervention & a deep respect for the estate's limestone plateau terroir (with plot by plot vinification). Now known as Beausejour - pure, vibrant and expressive wines that stand out from the rest.

What the critics say

James Molesworth (JMol) — 95–98/100 · Wine Spectator, 28/03/2019

Showy, with boysenberry and plum flavors liberally laced with red licorice notes. The fruit is flamboyant, but this reveals honest grip and solid energy through the finish.

Antonio Galloni (AG) — 97/100 · Vinous, 25/08/2021 · Drink 2028 - 2058

The 2018 Beausejour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is a huge wine that is going to need a number of years to come into its own. A wine of unreal concentration and pure power, the 2018 takes over all the senses with its commanding presence. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice, gravel, cured meat and cloves all scream out of the glass. This wild, untamed Saint-Émilion needs cellaring. I imagine it will…

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) — 97–99/100 · JebDunnuck.com, 24/04/2019

A brilliant follow up to the thrilling 2016, the 2018 Chateau Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse) is a mix of 80/20 of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. As seamless and sexy as they come, with brilliant cassis, blueberry, violets, and background spicy oak, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate depth, ultra-fine tannins, and a finish that won't quite. It's another magical…
