Ca’Marcanda was established in 1996 by Angelo Gaja who recognised the extraordinary potential of Bolgheri. Seeking the ideal terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, Gaja acquired a unique parcel of clay and limestone-rich soils near Castagneto Carducci. The famously lengthy negotiations for the purchase inspired the estate’s name, Ca’Marcanda, or “the house of endless negotiations” in Piedmontese dialect. Today the estate produces some of Tuscany’s most refined and ageworthy Bordeaux inspired wines, combining the polish and structure associated with Gaja’s winemaking philosophy with the warmth, perfume and generosity of the Bolgheri coast.

The 2016 Camarcanda is pretty, open-knit and gracious in its bouquet, although there is a good bit of Cabernet tannin underpinning the dark fruit.
