In Bond Fine Wine. 2015 Château Pontet Canet, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France. Fifth Growth • Red Bordeaux in 12x75cl. Top critic score: 95–98/100 (AG). Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Since 1995, Château Pontet-Canet has steadily evolved into one of Pauillac’s most distinctive and respected estates. In the market, Pontet-Canet consistently outperforms its Fifth Growth status, often rivalling the Second Growths in quality and market demand. Under the guidance of Alfred Tesseron, it became an early adopter of biodynamic farming, setting it apart within the Médoc. The wines are known for their balance, purity, and refined structure, maturing wines in clay eggs as well as oak. Key vintages such as 2005, 2009, 2010, and 2016 have been widely praised for their depth and ageing potential.

What the critics say

Th…

This leading Pauillac Classed Growth is one of Bordeaux's most distinctive wines. Under winemaker Jean-Michael Comme, over the past decade they have embraced full biodynamics here, with their aim to restore the natural balance of the vines and the wider vineyard ecosystem. Precise actions in the vineyard are geared toward reactivating the vine's own defences to produce naturally healthy ripe grap…

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, 50% of the 2015 Pontet-Canet was aged in new French oak, while 15% was matured in second fill barrels and 35% in cement amphorae. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose opens with exuberant black currants, red currants and black raspberries scents plus an evocative undercurrent of cedar chest, dusty earth, cloves…
