In 1988 Henry-Frederic Roch, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and grandson of Henri Leroy of Maison Leroy, decide to create his own domaine, buying vineyards in Vosne-Romanée offered for sale by DRC. From the outset, he pursued a highly individual approach to Burgundy, with organic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar. Production is small and the wines have developed a devoted following, making Prieuré Roch one of Burgundy’s most distinctive and sought-after domaines. The domaine has an exceptional collection of vineyards, including holdings in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin. Particularly notable are its monopoles: Clos des Corvées in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos des Varoilles in Gevrey-Chambertin and the tiny Clos Goillotte in Vosne-Romanée.
