In Bond Fine Wine. 2015 Château Angelus, Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, France. Premier Grand Cru Classé A • Red Bordeaux in 6x75cl. Top critic score: 98/100 (AV). Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Angelus is situated on a limestone plateau to the west of Saint Emilion, on a steep slope with a perfect southerly aspect. Hubert de Boüard took over from his father in the mid-eighties and has reinvigorated the estate. A former pupil of Emile Peynaud, Hubert de Bouard was one of the first Bordeaux winemakers to adopt techniques such as malolactic fermentation in small barriques. The de Bouard family also own La Fleur de Bouard in Lalande de Pomerol. Angelus remains the crown jewel - an intense, opulent wine that is an undisputed star of its appellation. Rewarded with Premier Cru Classé A status in 2012, setting Angelus firmly amongst the very best of its appellation alongside Cheval Blanc, Ausone, Figeac & Pavie.

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) — 97/100 · JebDunnuck.com, 30/11/2017 · Drink 2022-2052

A total blockbuster is the 2015 Angelus and it's reminiscent of a slightly more elegant 2009. Made from 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc brought up in new barrels, this rich, opulent beauty boast killer notes of blackcurrants, blackberry liqueur, truffle, chocolate and scorched earth. With full-bodied richness, building, ripe tannin and a stacked profile on the palate, this hedonistic Bomb of a…

Elevated in 2012 to St Emilion First Growth status, Angelus is owned and made by renowned winemaker Hubert de Bouard. 62% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc. Powerful broodingly deep aromas, of rich fruit, mocha and spices. The palate is intense and gorgeous with incredible cashmere texture and layers of rich elegant fruit: chocolate infused dark raspberries, cassis, blueberries. Dense, textural and stru…

A blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Angelus reveals a deep garnet-purple color and fragrant aromas of crushed red currants, warm plums and pencil shavings with hints of incense, sage, violets and tobacco. Full-bodied, very fine and intense yet exquisitely delicate with wonderful freshness, it has ripe yet firm, very finely grained tannins and an epically long, perfumed finish.…
