In Bond Fine Wine. 2012 Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France. Grand Cru Classé • Red Bordeaux in 12x75cl. Top critic score: 94/100 (JS). Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Domaine de Chevalier is one of Bordeaux’s most admired overachievers. Under Olivier Bernard the estate has been on upward trajectory, producing wines that manage to balance depth and structure with real finesse and drinkability. Silky, layered and aromatic, Domaine de Chevalier's red offers Graves complexity at a more approachable price than many top names in the region.

What the critics say

Robert Parker (RP) — 92–95/100 · Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com, 26/04/2013 · Drink 2013-2033

One of the stars of the vintage, it boasts a dense purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of red and black currants, graphite, subtle flowers and well-integrated, toasty oak. Impressively built rich and medium to full-bodied without losing the quintessential elegance and finesse for which this famous estate is renowned, the 2012 Domaine de Chevalier is filled with purity, equilibrium and ba…

Jancis Robinson MW (JR) — 16–17/20 · JancisRobinson.com, 19/04/2013 · Drink 2018-2030

Very dark crimson. Very concentrated and interesting on the nose. Sweet and voluptuous. Perhaps lacking a teensy amount of energy and drive. And the tannins are a little drying on the end. Acidity and grip are marked. Very much work in progress. As usual. (16.5++ Points)

James Suckling (JS) — 94/100 · JamesSuckling.com, 15/02/2015 · Drink 2018+

Extremely complex with cinnamon, dried fruits and dried flowers. Full body, super-integrated tannins and a silky, polished finish. Very impressive. Better in 2018 but very beautiful already.
