Fuligni's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a deeply floral wine with bright aromas of pressed violets and rose. There's isn't much fruit here and that surprised me greatly, given the immediate and forthcoming nature of the vintage. In fact, the wine feels a bit shut down and less expressive than expected. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is all about balance. Remarkably seamless for a young Brunello, the 2010 is also quite expressive and open at this stage, which is one of the signatures of the vintage. Bright red stone fruits, wild flowers and cinnamon are all given an extra kick of intensity and focus from the high acidity of the year. This is a terrific showing from Fuligni.
