In Bond Fine Wine. 2003 Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz, South Australia, Australia. Red australia - red in 6x75cl. Top critic score: 93/100 (JR). Drinking window: 2010–2018. Sold in bond by Albany Vintners, independent fine wine merchants.

Rooted in the Barossa Valley since the 1800s, Grant Burge is built on generations of family winemaking and a deep connection to some of South Australia’s finest old vineyards. The estate is best known for Meshach, its flagship Shiraz named in honour of Grant Burge’s great grandfather, Meshach Burge, a pioneer of the Barossa and a passionate believer in the region’s potential for world-class wine. Produced only in exceptional vintages, Meshach is sourced from ancient, dry-grown Shiraz vines - some over 100 years old - planted in the heart of the Barossa Valley. These treasured old vines deliver tiny yields of intensely concentrated fruit, producing a wine of remarkable depth, richness and longevity. Powerful yet refined, it is one of Australia’s great ageworthy Shiraz wines.

On the palate it has plenty of succulent fruit, enough structure to evolve for several more years,…

Subtle vanillin oak and Indian spice qualities gain power with air and carry onto the palate, complementing the sweet black raspberry and cassis flavors. Fine-grained tannins add grip to the long, sweet finish, which strongly repeats the floral note. This would b…
