A pungent nose of strong reduction and wood toast flatten the underlying fruit. This is also a big, powerful and intense effort with excellent mid-palate concentration and plenty of palate coating dry extract that also serves to buffer the extraordinarily firm finish that delivers superb length. Like several of these 2013s this is an old school style of Mazis and it is pointless to buy this unless you have the determination to allow it have at least 10 years of cellaring and it will need every bit of 20 to fully mature. As such this will not be for everyone but it will be a treat for those who have the resolve to wait. Score: 92 - 94 Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2033+ 15 January 2015 |
