The 2014 Lascombes is a wine that felt overdone after bottling however, this showing suggests that I should change my tune. It has a ripe, floral bouquet; pressed rose petal and iris scents infusing the red and black fruit all beautifully defined. This is a very sophisticated nose that just seems to gain complexity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine bead of acidity, lightly spiced with just a touch of dryness creeping in towards the finish. It feels broody now but I am sure this will age with style. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Score: 90 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2020-2035 01 March 2018 |

The 2014 Lascombes was perplexing when I tasted it multiple times from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a generous, warm bouquet with chestnut-tinged black fruit, hints of cedar filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, smooth in texture with ample blackberry and blueberry fruit, although my main criticism is lack of detail and delineation on the finish. Ergo, you don't feel enthused about returning for another sip. Score: 87 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2019-2029 31 March 2017 |

The Château Lascombes 2014 was showing just a bit of reduction on the nose when I tasted it, though normal for this estate, there is clearly abundant opulent fruit on the nose-cassis and blueberry to the fore. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannin and brambly black fruit, but an unexpected slight attenuation toward the finish. This is a perplexing showing. Tasted three times with consistent observations, this was difficult to pin down, so I will retaste this with more barrel age. Score: - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 April 2015 |

Blueberries and wet earth with dried flowers. Full body, a solid core fruit and a long and juicy finish. Excellent. Better in 2020. Score: 93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 13 February 2017 |

Dense and beautiful with layers of fruit and tannins. Very impressive for the vintage. Score: 91 - 92 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 27 March 2015 |

Deep colour. Ripe black fruit and pastry notes, then lovely opulence of black cherries, creamy tannins and a juicy finish. Refreshing and attractive. Score: 91 - 93 Albany Vintners, - 24 April 2015 |

Dark purplish crimson. Sweetness and polish on the nose. Very charming with good ripeness and just very slightly austere tannins. Should provide rewarding drinking. Needs time. Less exaggerated than it used to be. Score: 16 - 17 Jancis Robinson MW, 'Wines of the Rhone Valley' Maturity: 2024-2036 15 April 2015 |

Bouncy cherry and dark plum fruit is backed by a lively anise edge. A good spice hint emerges on the finish. Not dense but shows nice vibrancy. Score: 87 - 90 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 01 April 2015 |

Ample and broad on the palate, the 2014 Lascombes offers tons of pure richness to match its dramatic, huge personality. Dark red and inky black stone fruits meld into new leather, spices, mint and licorice. Even with all of its obvious power, my sense is that the 2014 is only showing a hint of its ultimate potential. This is a gorgeous wine made in a distinctly intense, concentrated style that is likely to require a measure of patience. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy extroverted wines. Tasted twice.
