Tasting Notes

The second wine of the tiny estate of Le Gay, the 2012 Manoir de Gay is excellent – meaty, with almost primordial forest notes, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, and a nice, plump density. It is surprisingly intense for a second wine. It has no hard edges and is best drunk over the next 10-12 years.

Score: 88

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2015-2027 01 April 2015

The second wine of Le Gay is pure Merlot, cropped between 3rd and 5th October that represents just 10% of the crop in 2012. It has a fresh raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet that is very well defined, very natural and refined. The oak is extremely well judged. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry. There is certainly good weight here for a second wine, showing more body than the Montviel, endowed with a long harmonious supple finish of spice-tinged red fruit. Very fine and doubtlessly good value. Tasted April 2013.

Score: 89 - 91

Features a dark fruit profile, with black currant, steeped blackberry and black cherry notes wound together and lined with Lapsang Souchong tea and singed anise accents. A very solid second wine in '12.

Score: 90 - 93
