The 2001 Brane-Cantenac has long been one of my favorite vintages from this era, and it actually surpasses its millennial counterpart. It has a fresh and joyful bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, gravel and cedar scents that seem to gain intensity with aeration. These aromatics demand attention! The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a little more freshness and vibrancy than the more introverted 2000 Brane-Cantenac and a pert, lively, beautifully focused, pencil-lead-tinged finish. Very fine. This comes highly recommended. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château. Score: 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2018-2038 01 January 2019 |

Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château, the 2001 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It has impressive lift on the nose: blackberry, raspberry and minerals, a bouquet that is captivating. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a core of black fruit, spice and licorice with a lovely peacock's tail on the finish. This is a Margaux with a skip in its step, more light-hearted and carefree than the 2000. I have always adored this wine and it is showing extremely well with 14 years on the clock. This is quite simply superb. Tasted April 2015. Score: 92 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2015-2030 01 April 2015 |
