Tasting Notes

Tasted at the chateau with Henri Lurton. This has a very intense nose: much more opulent and ravishing than you would expect from a ’99. There is a strange aroma, sort of, sage and onion inflecting the ripe red-berried fruits but it clears up to offer more orthodox scents of saddle-leather and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied, quite a gutsy Margaux, sinewy although perhaps lacking a bit of finesse towards the linear finish. Not bad for a 1999 although not a long-term proposition. Drink now-2015. Tasted April 2010.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2011-2015 01 March 2011

A beautifully complex perfume of fresh tobacco as well as cigar smoke, sweet licorice, and black currants is followed by an elegant, pure, harmonious Margaux. While not a big wine, it is medium-bodied, intense, and moderately structured. It should improve in the bottle, and merit an outstanding score in 2-3 years. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2016.

Fine and elegant red. Aromas of berries, tobacco and barley. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a tobacco, cherry aftertaste. Best after 2003.
