Vosne Romanee Malconsorts 1er Cru 2009

A highly perfumed nose of classic Vosne-style spice and ripe black fruit is trimmed in quite generous wood treatment that for the moment is borderline too much. Like the '09 Vosne villages, this is definitely on the robust side with powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess excellent concentration on the tightly focused and solidly structured and mildly austere finish that delivers explosive and striking length. Malconsorts is naturally masculine and this very ripe and serious example is very much in that mold. Note that there is so much underlying material that my score assumes that the liberal oak treatment will be integrated in time as this is definitely a wine that is built for the long-term. Outstanding
