Tasting Notes

The 2013 Carbonnieux Blanc felt primal, a little herbaceous on the nose, perhaps without the complexity of some of its peers and yet it opens intriguingly in the glass, a white Bordeaux coveting secrets perhaps. The palate is very saline, almost Muscadet-like with an edgy, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a curious Carbonnieux, atypical for the vintage and there is something in that which is very appealing in its individuality. It might not possess the broad appeal of say, Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc, but there is something cerebral about this Carbonnieux Blanc.

Score: 92

The Carbonnieux Blanc 2013 possesses a very pretty bouquet furnished with citrus lemon and lime flower at first, delicate peach notes following later. The palate is clean and fresh: "zippy" in the mouth with commendable depth and a dab of lemon sherbet enlivening the finish. This is a very composed and "animated" Carbonnieux Blanc that will be worth seeking out after bottling.

A very tangy and bright white with intense white peach, grapefruit and mineral character. Full body, crisp acidity. Gorgeous. One of the best Carbonnieux ever.

Score: 93 - 94

This has an open, high-pitched feel, with chalk and quinine out front, followed by lovely savory, straw, verbena and white peach notes. A mouthwatering white.
