Tasting Notes

The 2013 Pavie-Macquin has a light but detailed and pure redcurrant and cranberry-scented bouquet, suggestions of rose petal developing with aeration. The sample tasted at the property was showing a little more precision than others I have encountered. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, edgy tannin, a fine bead of acidity, a little brittle in texture but with tension on the smooth and refreshing finish. This is a worthy addition to the Right Bank 2013s and it should give a dozen years of pleasure. It deserves a round of applause for overcoming such a difficult growing season. Tasted February 2016.

The 2013 Pavie Macquin boasts striking depth, power and volume for the year. Resonant and layered on the palate, the 2013 possesses gorgeous depth and tons of intensity, not to mention remarkable purity. This is a gorgeous showing made all the more remarkable considering the late malos give the 2013 a distinctly raw, not fully formed feel. There is a lot to look forward to here. In 2013 the blend is 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest started on October 4 with the Merlot and finished on October 15 with the Cabernets. Tasted twice.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 01 April 2014

Rich, concentrated fruit. Spicy pork character on the palate, which doesn’t quite seem right in this context. Something a bit like blue cheese as well. Bitter notes to finish, and a fair whack of tannin. Rather too esoteric.

Cherry and spice nose. Firm and structured, though less power than some years. Clean and persistent. (90+ Points)

The pure aromas are very expressive, with a friendly feel to the raspberry, plum and cherry fruit, layered with floral and anise notes. Stays stylish through the finish.

This is incredibly long and intense for the vintage, with raspberry and citrus character. Fine tannins. It goes on for minutes. An electrifying wine for the vintage, from organically grown grapes.
