Tasted at the Roumier dinner at The Ledbury. After its stunning showing out of barrel, I am pleased to say that in bottle, Christophe’s les Amoureuses does not disappoint. It has a sensational, almost ostentatious bouquet with rounded dark fruits, blueberry and cassis but with great mineralite poking through. The palate displays wonderful poise and freshness, perhaps more restrained and 'respectable' than the nose, with ineffable symmetry and focus towards the tense finish that brims with energy. Excellent. Drink 2014-2025+ Tasted May 2010. Score: 95 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2014-2025+ 01 September 2010 |

Purple plum and red raspberry accented with citrus oils, cumin, and black pepper all inform the nose and a deeply rich palate of Roumier's 2007 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses. Savory meatiness emerges as this opens to the air, and alkaline, saline, and chalky mineral suggestions add intrigue to its memorably persistent finish. Palpably dense yet fine-grained - even incipiently silken - this is clearly one of those 2007s worth following for a decade or more, though I think the 2008 will retain the edge in elegance and intriguing complexity as well as be far longer-lived. A very densely fruited, seductive and wonderfully complex nose redolent of plum, red fruits, earth, smoke, underbrush and ample spice hints introduces impressively focused, textured and precise medium full flavors that stain the palate while coating it on the solidly persistent, explosive and mineral-infused finish that has an opulent feel to it. This is quite serious and cool with a firm tannic spine that will require ample cellar time to arrive at its peak and while it's not quite as structured as the Bonnes Mares, it still will need most of the next decade to arrive at its apogee. A powerful yet understated and stunningly elegant Amoureuses. Outstanding Score: 93 Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2017+ 30 January 2010 |
