Loads of cedar and clove notes from new oak, but the fruit is bright and bold too. Sieved but insistent mouth-coating tannin. Shame the finish is a bit brief. Score: 16 Jancis Robinson MW, Richard Hemming, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2016-2022 01 April 2014 |

Pretty red berry aroma. Full, round and juicy. Fresh. Firm and masculine in style. Score: 89 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2018-2028 01 April 2014 |

Shows a firm plum skin frame, with a core of cherry, bitter plum and blackberry fruit. Lightly singed anise notes appear on the finish. Score: 86 - 89 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 01 April 2014 |

Nicolas de Bailliencourt told me that for the second year running the Grand Vin is pure Merlot. It has a perfumed and much more floral bouquet compared to recent years. There is fine precision here, though it is not a powerful Gazin. The palate is medium-bodied and just a little pinched on the entry. The structure feels firm, lending it a mannered, conservative feel, whilst the finish is balanced with a truffle tinged finish. Tasted April 2014. Score: 89 - 91 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 April 2014 |

Black cherry and violets on the nose then, pure and clean with high-toned black and blueberry fruit and minerals. Juicy fruit in the middle, ripe with nice structure and a lovely elegant fresh finish. Score: 90 - 92 Albany Vintners, - 01 April 2014 |
