Tasting Notes

A slightly confected nose with liquorice, tar. Sweet black fruits fill in the middle with lots of extract, finishing dry.

Score: 88 - 90

Albany Vintners, - 01 April 2014

Quite solid, with a core of plum and boysenberry fruit studded with anise and roasted apple wood notes. This has a nice muscular feel, particularly for the vintage.

Score: 88 - 91

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 01 April 2014

Juicy black cherry, a nice bit of liquorice, and then very furry tannins that don’t really belong in this structure. Peppery spice to finish. Will these tannins ever fully resolve? (15.5)

Score: 15 - 16

Jancis Robinson MW, Richard Hemming, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2020-2026 01 April 2014

Deep, dark colour. Dark fruit and chocolate notes. Touch more extraction. Slightly drying finish but the fruit there.

Score: 86

Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2017-2025 01 April 2014

The Fleur Cardinale was picked between 15 and 23 October at 17hl/ha - a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a pleasant bouquet with ripe blackberry and cassis notes, perhaps just a touch of alcohol giving it lift. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There is good weight here and decent tension on the finish, though it cuts away a little quickly. Tasted April 2014.

Score: 89 - 91

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 April 2014

Attractive cool berry character with chalk undertones. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a silky-textured finish.

Score: 89 - 90
