Tasting Notes

The 2009 Perrieres from Jean-Francois Coche does not quite possess the thrilling bouquet as the succeeding vintage, but that does not detract from the ethereal slate and honeysuckle scents that display exquisite delineation. The palate is extremely well-balanced, more delicate than the 2010, and Zen-like toward the finish. There is so much potential here, I would cellar bottles for another five or six years. Tasted March 2013.

Light and not really bothersome reduction is in any event not sufficient to hide the sublimely elegant aromas of white flower, citrus and wet stone. This refined introduction is followed by stony and beautifully precise flavors that possess a positively gorgeous mouth feel before terminating in a driving, citrusy and presently compact finish that delivers superb persistence. This is still very much of a baby and given that it's blessed with both an abundance of dry extract and impeccable balance should augur for an excellent future.

The 2009 Meursault Perrieres is pure seduction. Slate, ash and smoke are just some of the nuances that wrap around the palate in this captivating, strikingly beautiful wine. The wine shows multiple players of flavor all the way through to the kaleidoscopic finish. Coche says the berries in Perrieres were particularly small. This is insanely beautiful. Anticipated maturity: 2017+.
