Bright red. Scented nose combines spicy cassis, red cherry and tobacco. Wonderfully creamy and layered in the mouth, with very good sweetness and charm to its red fruit and herbal flavors; ripe but not roasted. The persistent finish shows even tannins and a complicating note of violet. Beautifully made entry-level wine: a little more concentration and I would have scored it even higher. Both the Guidalberto and Le Difese offer fantastic value for money and will provide early drinking pleasure but will also last several years. Le Difese a blend of 30% Sangiovese from the original plantings on the estate and 70% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from young Cabernet vines. "A brilliant wine from the Sassicaia family in Tuscany. This is in effect the third wine from one of the greatest of all Italian estates, and it is quite stunning. It's 70 per cent young Cabernet vines, and 30 per cent Sangiovese, and it is complex, velvety, herbaceous, and packed with glorious flavours, proof once again that the Italians are making some of the finest red wines in the world right now.
