Tasting Notes

Good full red. High-toned, deeply spicy aromas of maraschino cherry, smoke, earth and minerals. Big, rich and harmonious, with lovely floral complexity to its red fruit flavors. Wonderfully silky and round without leaving any impression of undue weight. Extremely pliant wine with very supple tannins and a rich, long finish. Beautifully balanced from the start but Rousseau's top cuvees in 2009 should really be cellared for at least a decade.

Score: 92

Ripe and very floral aromas display pure red pinot fruit that is cut with minerality and crushed herbs that introduce earthy and stony middle weight flavors that possess a taut muscularity and excellent power on the beautifully well-balanced and lingering finish. This is a very fresh wine of harmony that should age for decades if well-stored and while it's not quite at the same level as the brilliant 2005 version, it's close.

Score: 93

The estate’s 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin is long, pretty and supple in its crystalline expression of fruit. Impeccable and classy throughout, the Ruchottes is one of the more seductive wines among the 2009s.
