Tasting Notes

Cantegril is owned and made by Denis Dubourdieu of Chateau Doisy Daene. Denis is one of Bordeaux's foremost winemakers and Professor of Oenology at Bordeaux University, known for a winemaking style that emphasises fresh fruit purity and elegance. Not quite as rich as Doisy Daene but displaying grapefruit and apricots, hints of caramel, lovely sweetness and a bit of zing on the finish. Drinking now and a seriously good price for mature Sauternes.

For many years this property, Chateau Cantegril, has been a secret enjoyed only by a knowledgeable few. An unclassified estate, this is one wine that has tended to punch above its weight in recent years, with an elegant and minerally rather than rich or voluptuous style. Part of the reason for the success here must surely be the skill and know-how possessed by the proprietor, Denis Dubourdieu.

Smells like an apple tart with hints of honey and cream. Full-bodied, with very lively acidity yet a rich and very sweet palate. Excellent young Sauternes. Best after 2006. 2,915 cases made.
