Tasting Notes

One of the most successful wines in the Moulis-Listrac appellations, Poujeaux (owned by the Cuvelier family, also the proprietors of the impressive St.-Emilion estate of Clos Fourtet) has turned out a surprisingly good wine in 2011. Its dark ruby color is followed by sweet plum, black cherry and currant fruit, no herbaceousness, a medium-bodied, elegant mouthfeel, and noteworthy purity. Drink this tasty, mid-weight Moulis over the next 5-6 years.

Score: 86

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2014-2020 01 April 2014

Tasted on three occasions, the Poujeaux looks set to be a fine Moulis with a harmonious, quite rounded bouquet that is pure and sensual: touches of red cherries and strawberry, demonstrating well integrated judicious use of oak. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins on the entry. The fruit is just a little pinched at the moment, but it shows fine symmetry and focus towards its masculine finish. Echoes the 2010 in some ways. Tasted April 2012.

Score: 89 - 91

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 30 April 2012

Good depth of black fruits, good structure, tannins quite high, but the fruit will dominate to show complexity as well as weight.

Score: 16

Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2015-2025 16 April 2012

Greyish deep crimson. Sweet plummy fruit with oak spice overlay and then a darker more savoury aroma that adds complexity. Just slightly dusty. Fine, powdery tannins at first but finishes a little too dry for comfort.

Score: 15 - 16

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2017-2026 12 April 2012

Soft but ripe, with dark plum and cherry eau-de-vie notes and light toast and anise hints on the finish.

Score: 86 - 89

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 11 April 2012

A wine with blueberry and violet character on the nose and palate. Citrus rind too. Intense. Very well done.

Score: 90 - 91
