Tasting Notes:

The 2009 Mazis-Chambertin is a gorgeous, complete wine that reveals considerable elegance and complexity in its vibrant fruit. This elegant, mid-weight Mazis boasts incredible class, harmony and finesse in the way it shows the multiple facets of its personality with time in the glass. I tasted the following wines with Frederic Robert, who works alongside Eric Rousseau. In 2009 Rousseau and his team began picking on September 7, the earliest in Gevrey. For the first time the estate used 20% whole clusters on all the wines except for Clos de la Roche, which was closer to 15%. The 2009s were scheduled to be bottled in April 2011. I also tasted a handful of 2008s that were deeply impressive.

A more aromatically complex nose offers up notes of fresh and exuberant red berry fruit that is liberally laced with warm earth and animale nuances that carry over to the rich and attractively voluminous flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers well the firm tannic spine on the delicious, balanced and sappy finish. This is more approachable than it usually is at this early stage though it will have no trouble aging well.

Low-key nose. Mellow and really quite soft with a salty hint. Really quite light and rue but this would certainly disappoint a neophyte looking for the great Grand Cru burgundy experience. Not recently sulphured.
