Tasting Notes

This is very ripe and a tad confected on the nose with touches of tinned strawberries and a little sawdust. The palate is ripe with succulent tannins, although this is not a complex wine with notes of cherry, pomegranate and a touch of raspberry leaf. Good definition on the slightly austere finish. Not bad although not a long-term contender. Tasted October 2007.

Score: 86

Typical of the style sought by winemaker Pascal Delbeck, Belair’s 2001 possesses tart, crisp acidity, a noticeable angularity/austerity, and notions of sweet and sour cherries and crushed stones. This narrowly constructed yet elegant St.-Emilion is more intellectual than hedonistic in style.
