Tasting Notes

Pretty dark. Scented and well-integrated. Very winning. An early developer and will never be great, but nicely done for the vintage with no unripe tannins or excess greenness.

This Gloria has a ripe nose of blackberry, bilberry, a touch of vanilla and damson with a touch of warm alcohol. Moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied, a forceful Saint Julien, as if it yearns to compensate for the less than glorious Gloria wines of yore. Blackberry, cedar and a touch of leather, this is a real mouth-filler although it could do with a degree more freshness on the finish. Still, this is an agreeable 2004 for medium-term drinking. Drink 2010-2018. Tasted November 2008.

This stunningly rich sleeper of the vintage reveals oodles of herb-tinged black currant and cherry fruit, medium to full body, silky tannin, and low acidity. Gloriously fruity, soft, and classic in its aromatic and flavor dimensions, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

Aromas of violet and blackberry, with a hint of licorice. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. A solid wine for the vintage. A little more fruit on the finish would make this outstanding. Best after 2011.
