A lean, firm, elegant Bordeaux, with a floral, perfumed aroma and light cherry and spice flavors. Very pleasant and crisp in texture.--Lafite Rothschild vertical. Score: 87 James Suckling, Wine Spectator |

Bright crimson. Lots of acid and pretty light bodied. Very, very lightweight and a little weedy but there is some richness in what is left of the fruit core. This was clearly a very successful vintage and must have been a good drink at its peak. Could be great if tasted in isolation but it rather suffered in contrast to the Mouton 1949 served alongside. The 1949 was good, but far from profound. Score: - Robert Parker, 'Bordeaux' 3rd Ed. Maturity: 2000 |

Tasted at dinner in Bordeaux. A fragrant nose of cigar-box and cedar that has a beguiling focus. The palate is fully mature and is just on the wane. Becoming a little tarty with high acidity. Notes of faint red berried fruits and tobacco. Very elegant but starting to lose its fruit. Fine length though. Beautiful wine but drink up. Tasted March 2000.
