Tasting Notes

The Lynch Moussas has a classic Pauillac bouquet of tertiary-driven black, brambly fruit, hints of sage and cedar coming forth with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh on the entry, slightly savoury, with hints of Italian cured meats towards the spicy finish. This is a very fine Lynch Moussas.

Cropped four days later than Batailley, finishing on 21st October, the Lynch Moussas is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot cropped at 39hl/ha, this has quite a generous nose with blackberry, crushed stone, just a hint of hot roof tiles developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy tannins on the entry, good acidity, more backbone than the 2009 was showing last year with some lovely ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. There is an almost citrus-like freshness on the finish with very good length. Certainly the best Lynch Moussas in a very long time. Tasted March 2011.

The 2010 is a strong effort and one of their best wines in a generation or more. Some toasty oak seems relatively strong, but not excessive. Deep ruby/purple, notes of black fruits as well as red currants, fig and plum are all present. The wine has a good bit of flesh, fat, but then shuts down in the finish, with moderately high tannins. By all counts, this is an excellent Pauillac that just needs a few years of cellaring to resolve some of its oak and tannin, but has the potential to be outstanding if given sufficient bottle age. It should last for two decades. (89+ Points)

This dark purple-colored Pauillac’s surprisingly soft entry on the palate leads to savory, broad flavors of plums, black currants, cedar and new oak. The tannins are noticeable, but the wine is characterized by copious fruit, glycerin and a medium-bodied, generous style. It will be drinkable early and last for 10-15 years.

Fragrant, cedary cassis. Very cedary. Verging on herbaceous. Actually I'd have to say a little bit green on the palate. Fine texture but just needs a touch more ripeness. Fresh of course

A Classed Growth that continues to offer good value for money. Good berry fruit and earth. A touch of green adds complexity, with a good, fresh finish.

Tasted 7 Apr: Very dark, concentrated ruby. Very fresh and minerally/pencil shavings on the nose. Soooo Cabernet! Nice succulent fresh Pauillac without enormous ambition but well balanced and should provide lovely medium-term drinking. More transparent than most. Dry finish. Tasted 17 Feb: 1.5km from sister property Ch Batailley. Not finished when I tasted it so I have given precedence to my impressions when I tasted it blind in early April . Very dark purple. Light green-peppery note. Sweet start and lacks the sheer concentration of some 2010s but pretty snazzy. Very sweet and flattering. (Score: 16 18-30)
