Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Labegorce 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with lush blackberries, loganberry and well-integrated oak that lends this a high quality modern sheen. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth entry, well judged acidity and a fleshy, slightly savoury finish with better complexity than its peers.

Score: 90

The Labegorce 2010 has a ripe, opulent bouquet of macerated dark cherries, cassis and boysenberry with moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins, good acidity and tension towards the finish with dark cherry, cedar and blueberry. Nice focus and poise. Excellent. Tasted April 2011.

Very aromatic with blueberry, mineral and dried mint. Full body, with super velvety texture with wonderful fruit and a balanced finish. Beautiful tannins. So wonderful to taste now but another three or four years will be better. Try in 2016.

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine exhibits sweet tannin, medium body and blue and black fruits intermixed with underbrush, licorice, cedar and spice box in a medium-bodied, elegant style with moderate tannin. Forget it for several years and Drink it over the following decade.

This is the debut vintage for consultant Claude Gros and the quality is the finest I have ever tasted from this estate. (Beginning in 2009, the neighboring estate of Labegorce Zede was incorporated into Labegorce.) Made from a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that hit 14% natural alcohol, this sleeper of the vintage reveals a dense purple color in addition to abundant notes of charcoal, spring flowers, black currants and subtle smoky barrique in the background. Medium to full-bodied and ripe with sweet tannin, this beauty should drink nicely for a decade or more.

So deep and black and dense! Sweet and thick and creamy. Very flattering indeed but a bit extreme. Demanding, rather jagged tannins on the end. Some tarriness. Very marked tannins.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2020-2030 18 April 2011

Deep, robust, slightly leathery cassis fruit, good freshness and clarity that gives lift to the natural weight, very satisfying wine.

Score: 17

Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2015-2025 01 April 2011

A dark, plummy, richly fruited style, with black currant, warm fig sauce and dark currant character wrapped with lush dark cocoa and espresso notes, followed by a big, toasty finish. Shows more width than length right now, but there's plenty of stuffing. Should stretch out more.

Score: 90 - 93
