Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The second wine from Lynch Bages falls short of its promise from barrel. This has a rather raw bouquet with cigar box infused black fruit, hints of graphite and autumn leaves surfacing with continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a dry, slightly raw entry and it feels a little attenuated towards the finish. Tasted January 2014.

Score: 87

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 31 March 2014

A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, the Deuxieme Vin of Lynch Bages has blackberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of tobacco on the nose. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, succulent entry, powdery tannins with a fine blackberry, raspberry and cassis-tinged finish. Moderate length. Fine. Tasted March 2011.

Score: 90 - 92

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 15 April 2011

This displays a solid core of cassis, raspberry and blackberry coulis notes, framed by a rather polished structure and lined with lightly toasted apple wood and anise notes. Offers good definition, with a violet note chiming in on the finish. A sleek, elegant Pauillac that relies more on purity than muscle. Best from 2014 through 2023.

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2014-2023 31 March 2013

Sleek and pure, with seamless cassis, blackberry and bitter cherry notes laced tightly with iron and sweet spice. Long and pure. Probably the best second wine yet from here.

Score: 90 - 93

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 31 March 2011

A juicy wine with strawberry and blueberry character. It's full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Lots of ripe fruit. Excellent second wine of Lynch-Bages. Better in 2015.

Score: 92

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Maturity: 2015+ 17 February 2013

58%cs, 33%m, 9%CF representing 26% of production with 4% sold off in bulk. Deep purplish with a bright rim. Very inviting nose, intense and open with pure cassis and floral notes. Good density with a punchy finish.

Score: 89 - 91
