A bit dusty on the nose and lightish in terms of body. Slightly tart on the end. Slightly meagre but certainly 'classic'. Falls away a bit fast. Score: 16 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2005-2014 16 August 2010 |

Batailley's 1996 is a well-structured, old style Pauillac with a dense ruby/purple color, earthy, cedar-tinged, black currant fruit in the aromatics and flavors, medium body, an excellent mid-palate, good depth, and a moderately tannic, firm, but pure finish. This very good to excellent Batailley will keep for two decades. Score: 87 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2003-2020 01 April 1999 |

Wonderful aromas, but it falls a bit short on the palate. Plenty of currant and lead-pencil character. Medium-bodied, with polished tannins and a slightly hollow center-palate. Best after 2001. Score: 86 James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2001+ 31 January 1999 |
