Tasting Notes:

An elegant, streamlined Champagne, displaying a delicate texture and lightly honeyed flavors of toast, applesauce, vanilla and hazelnut. This is fresh and clean, with well-meshed acidity and a hint of smoke running throughout. Drink now through 2016.

After the extravagance of 1996, 1998 saw Dom Ruinart return to a more classically balanced vintage. Following a variable summer, the steady sunshine from mid September ensured a harvest of superb grapes. Harvest: Baumé 9°8 GL - Total acidity 8.1 g/l H2SO4 - pH 3.02 - S/A 20.4 Chardonnay: Baumé 9°8 GL - Total acidity 8.3 g/l H2SO4 Declared yield: 12,926 kg/ha Assemblage: 100% Chardonnay solely from Grands Crus, with 66% from the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) and 34% from the north face of the Montagne de Reims (Sillery, Puisieulx and Verzenay). Disgorged Nov 2008 Very persistent bead. Pale straw. Quite rich, compact nose. Hint of crème pâtissiere. Much drier on the palate and still youthful. Quite tucked in and still very taut. Brisk and fresh. Ideally should be kept. Pretty solid.
