Tasting Notes:

Dramatically site-typical in its pungent scents of peat, Latakia tobacco, smoked meats, and licorice, the Rousseau 2008 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes offers a rich yet vibrant amalgam of dark cherry, licorice, and tobacco on smoothly polished yet palpably extract-rich palate. Peat, chalk and bittersweet herbal and cherry pit notes help extend an energetically gripping finish. I would feel confident in planning to age this for 12-15 years.

This is also extremely fresh, pure and expressive with a supremely elegant, cool and restrained nose of red berry fruit, floral nuances and obvious minerality that extends to the detailed, delicious and equally pure medium-bodied flavors that possess a silky texture and outstanding finish length and complexity. This is so fresh and with so much underlying energy and tension that one really feels like drinking this. Lovely juice.

Darker than most Rousseau 2008s. Mid ruby with stunning depth and vitality. This wine really reverberates. Great sweetness on the palate. Absolutely all I love about red burgundy is here. Not big but so subtle! Really pure with a fine skin of tannins. Very long.

(this one was in 15% new oak until it was racked in mid-summer) Good full, bright red. Lovely lift to the explosive aroma of raspberry, spices, minerals, violet and spicy oak. The vibrant, pure palate offers terrific density without any impression of weight, with energetic berry flavors complicated by a saline quality. This really saturates the palate and leaves the taste buds vibrating.
