Tasting Notes

The 2005 Clos du Clocher is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc from a beautifully situated vineyard near the appellation’s lovely church on the heavily clay-dominated plateau of Pomerol. This property produces less than 2,000 cases of wine. With a gorgeous concentration of mocha, coffee, chocolate, kirsch and blackcurrant, this stunning, full-bodied 2005 is soft, silky, opulent and luscious. This beautifully rich, heady Pomerol is certainly a star of the appellation in this vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

A strong effort from this estate, which remains somewhat disregarded in the Pomerol hierarchy, the deep plum/purple-hued 2005 Clos du Clocher offers up notes of sweet chocolate, caramel, black cherries, herbs, and camphor. With ripe tannin, an opulent, fleshy mouthfeel, and decent acidity, the impression is one of breadth and hedonism. Enjoy it over the next 10-15+ years.

This has wonderful mineral, blackberry, sweet tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, yet balanced and refined, with coffee, chocolate and berry character. Long and caressing. Very pretty and harmonious. Best after 2016. 1,665 cases made.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2016+ 31 March 2008

Medium red-ruby. Cherry and mint aromas suggest a very fresh wine. Pliant and sweet, with moderately intense flavors of black cherry, raspberry and menthol. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length.

Sweet, ripe, floral nose. Rich, broad spread of winning flavours. More forward than some though with excellent structure and energy underneath. Very positive.
