Tasting Notes:

The 2006 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone Syrah was the only wine that seemed awkward and disjointed when tasting through the two cuvees that represent the blend. Of course, these Syrah cuttings came from none other than Jean-Louis Chave, and were planted by the father of Jacques Reynaud. The first vintage was 1978. It is always an impressively endowed wine, dark, gamey, earthy, with almost beastly amounts of extract and tannin. (88-90+ Points)

Score: 88 - 90 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Dark and driven, with a beefy hint pushing the charcoal, roasted plum, hoisin sauce and espresso notes, all laced with melted black licorice and nicely buried, racy acidity. Drink now through 2020. 334 cases made.

Score: 92 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2010-2020

Medium red. Spicy, inviting bouquet of strawberry and redcurrant, with sexy notes of potpourri and cola. Sappy, finely etched red berry flavors are deepened by cola and sassafras qualities. Very complex Cotes du Rhone with excellent finishing clarity and thrust.
