Tasting Notes

(60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 10% cabernet franc) Bright ruby-red. Slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, black cherry, violet and licorice. Fairly dense if a bit chunky, with moderately sweet flavors of dark berries, licorice and shoe polish. Could use a bit more cut, but offers good fruit and texture, and finishes with reasonably sweet tannins.

Score: 85 - 88

Relatively pale. Rather bloody, raw nose with some sweetness, but no great depths. Serviceable! A good airline wine..

The nose on the commendable Ormes-de-Pez has clammed up since tasted out of barrel. Backward, taut, a little leafy with blackberry, cedar, tree bark and a touch of pain grille. Good complexity. The palate if medium-bodied with blackberry, firm tannins, rather foursquare but with superb freshness and harmony. This is a lovely, quintessential Saint Estephe. Drink 2014-2028. Tasted November 2008.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2014-2028 01 March 2009

This is a superficial, straightforward style of wine with plenty of fruit, medium body, but little depth and finish. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2007-2012 01 June 2007

A chewy red, showing intense aromas of raisin and spices, with hints of cedar. Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long finish. Best after 2010. 17,000 cases made.
