Tasting Notes

Tasted at the UGC in London. This Durfort-Vivens is adorned with a surprising nose: I was expecting an overt leafy character but it actually has admirable fruit concentration, interwoven with subtle tobacco and cigar-box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, quite chewy texture with blackberry, raspberry leaf and a dried citrus, almost sour edge towards the finish. Moderate length. This constitutes a respectable Margaux for early drinking. Drink now-2015. Tasted November 2009.

This dark ruby-colored 2007 possesses aromas of plum sauce, berry fruit, juicy black currants, and a hint of herbs. It is an attractive, mid-weight, fleshy wine with good purity and depth. Enjoy it over the next decade.

Displays blackberry and mulberry, with fresh vanilla bean aromas. Medium-bodied, offering good fruit, silky tannins and vanilla and chocolate flavors. Racy. Best after 2011. 8,335 cases made.

First vintage of the attractive new retro label inspired by the 19th century. Very dark - really quite unusually dark. This tastes as though an enormous amount of effort has gone into trying to compensate for the vintage's failures. It's still a bit austere but top marks for effort! (16- Points)

Bright medium ruby. Good lift to the aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet. Juicy, pure and on the lean side but with a subtle sweetness and good flavor intensity. The sweet fruit holds nicely to the end, which features mouthdusting tannins and good persistence. A rather stylish wine, dominated by its cabernet side today.
