Tasting Notes

I must have underrated the 2007 Saint-Pierre because this showed extremely well. This is totally different from the last showing, which was also conducted blind. It has a perfumed, quite feminine bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the red berry fruit. This seems very composed and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, fine focus and plenty of freshness and vigor towards the lightly spiced finish. This is a very well crafted Saint Julien that should offer another ten years of pleasure. Tasted March 2015.

Full ruby-red. Smoke, leather, pepper and herbs on the slightly raw nose. Then surprisingly supple and broad if a bit youthfully clenched in the mouth, with the peppery quality carrying through to the finish, which offers an intriguing suggestion of curry powder. Classic traditionally styled, flavory claret. (89+ points)

A fabulous wine for the vintage, this well-endowed St.-Julien exhibits a dense purple color in addition to a sweet bouquet of charcoal, burning embers, blackberries, cassis, and a hint of graphite. Dense, full-bodied, and surprisingly concentrated with more body, texture, and length than most 2007s, the wine possesses a suppleness, velvety tannins, and low acidity. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

Complex aromas of mineral, blackberry and licorice follow through to a medium body, with polished, refined tannins and a medium finish. Balanced for the vintage. Best after 2011. 5,415 cases made.
