Tasting Notes

From the famed proprietor Denis Durantou, who is better known for his famous Pomerol, L-Eglise Clinet, this wine is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Dense purple in color, with a boatload of tannin but also impressive levels of extract and richness, for a 2009 this wine needs some patience from its purchaser. It was more hedonistic from barrel, but it actually seems even more seriously endowed from bottle, and I would hold off drinking it for a year or so, as it should keep for at least a decade or more.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, this property was recently acquired by the obsessive perfectionist owner of l’Eglise Clinet, Denis Durantou. Ripe black cherry and black currant fruit is found in this voluptuous, lush, full-bodied, pure wine. Enjoy this hedonistic turn-on over the next 3-4 years. (88-89+ Points)

A wine with dried berries such as strawberries and blueberries. Hints of dried lemon peel. Very vibrant. Full body, with chewy tannins that are polished and fine. From the same owner of L'Eglise Clinet. Better in 2014.

This shows wonderful aromas of blackberry with hints of flowers. Full bodied, with superfine tannins and a long, long finish. 75 percent Merlot and 25 percent Cabernet Franc. A new wine from the owner of L'église Clinet, who recently bought the 36-acre vineyard

Do not ignore this wonderful Cotes de Castillon! It has a beautiful, vibrant bouquet with very expressive Cabernet Franc. Wonderful delineation here with hints of crushed rose petals and vivacious red fruits. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. There is a real fleshiness here from the Merlot, but the Cabernet Franc completes the picture with the hints of tobacco on the finish. Superb.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 September 2011

Picked between 30th September and 5th October, this blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc marks the debut vintage for Denis Durantou. It has a rather understated nose with moderate definition, aromas of blackberry, mulberry, a hint of dark chocolate and cedarwood. The palate is very well defined, makes an instant impression on the entry, very fine tannins, quite earthy but with an engaging clarity and freshness with notes of blackberry leaf, briary and crushed stones. This is a great debut. Tasted March 2010.

Bright ruby-red. Very pretty, intense nose is redolent of spicy redcurrant and raspberry, minerals and violet. Suave, fine-grained and densely packed, with lovely violet lift to its concentrated red cherry, raspberry and mineral flavors. The wine's juicy acidity and smooth tannic backbone guarantee further development and solid aging potential. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the long finish. Denis Durantou bought this property on high-quality clay in early 2009, and this has to be one of the most impressive maiden bottlings I've tasted from anywhere in quite a long time.

Ian D'Agata, International Wine Cellar 01 May 2010

A new property owned by Denis Durantou of Ch Eglise Clinet. Lots of Cabernet Franc on clay. First vintage, bought March 2009. 1 ha of St-Émilion would cost the same as 10 ha here, and 1 ha in Pomerol would be the equivalent cost of 45 ha of Castillon. You can see Troplong Mondot from the property. Very rich and thick and opulent. Thick and dry and dense. Lots of tannins and very ambitious. Outstanding for the appellation. Look at those suggested drink dates! (16.5+ Points)

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2017-2027 30 April 2010

Recently purchased by Denis Durantou, this property is excellently situated on a hill overlooking St Emilion, and is the wine (apart from Eglise Clinet) of which he is most proud, thanks to all that luxuriant Cabernet fruit. 75M, 25CF. Spicy nose with black berries and earth, lots of complexity from excellently ripe Cabernet Franc fruit.
